http://www.reddit.com/r/pics/comments/96ijn/hey_reddit_so_i_wrote_to_sega_to_ask_if_they/

... I was the letter before the actual reddit thread and was under the impression that Sega had found someone using the rom for some mischievous manner, like a MAME arcade set-up in public. So the real reason is far less exciting, even sillier.

Dear SEGA, can I illegally download something of your property? Which is what I have been doing anyway?

Dear Sega,

It's awesome that Sega Racing Classics ended up being a souped up, HD version of Daytona 1... even though we all really wanted Daytona 3 the most, but whatever. And while I'm glad that it's a faithful remake, this is fucking unacceptable...

... If not for the Sega Racing Classics banner in the beginning, I wouldn't have known that I was looking at the revamp. Actually, strike that, because there was no slowdown at the finish line before. I suppose it's a testament to how awesome the original was, but it's mostly yet another reminder how fucking lazy you've become.

Sega has never been able to deliver a proper Daytona USA port Sad

this will undoubtedly be as close at it gets though.

hey fort, not a lot, I am working in (North) Hollywood as an audio engineer these days. I was just hitting F5 at SB yesterday when Scratch reminded me where a lot of the cool folks were.

I will end up getting sega racing classics even if that video is indicative of the slowdown.

Well, we don't know if we're getting a home release or not. Personally, I always figured a straight-forward HD port of Daytona would be perfect for XBL/PSN. But if you're gonna do an arcade release, you got do something different.

Anyhow, good hearing from you once again, and knowing that things are going okay. And yeah, hate to brag, but everyone here is pretty fucking rad.

ha! well that's even more disappointing then, though having trekked to las vegas and back and not seeing a single Daytona machine that even functions properly... I can understand why they would bother with a re-release I guess.

When they opened up a Dave & Busters here in NYC over a year ago, I mostly could not have given a rat's ass... except for the gem mint 10 8 player Daytona set-up. Every wheel felt nice and tight, the seats and hydraulics were not messed up, plus the screens had zero burn in. Point being, up until recently, Sega was still making them!

I forget where I read it, but apparently Daytona USA has more arcade machines out there than any other, even more so than Space Invaders or Ms Pac Man, if that can be believed. Though the Ms Pac Man/Galaga machines have probably off-set that record by now.

If they replace / rip the vocals from the soundtrack. . . well it's just not Daytona USA without them.

I've seen people bitching about the pop-up still being there on NeoGaf, but I dunno, seeing the track pop-up after a turn is just kinda synonymous with Daytona for me.  I'm pretty sure I'd miss it if it were gone.

I guess it's old news by now, but this past Friday, Slonie mentioned to me how its basically been confirmed that the "new game" is nothing more than the arcade original, emulated but with high end graphic filters. Hence the slowdown and still existing pop-ups.
