We don’t believe that the Grand Theft Auto games, which are massive in scope and structurally complex, can be adequately compressed into a two-hour movie," said Dan Houser, vice president of creative at Rockstar Games.

Also, old news to most, I realize, but...

... I don't think James Jean is involved in the project anymore, and in that case, I could give two shits.

i dunno who James Jean is, but my hopes for the Castlevania movie being any good were always pretty low.  i mean, as someone who was once obsessed with the series as a whole, i'm going to have to see the movie just because it's...something i need to do.  but i'm sure it's going to be absolute garbage.

speaking of, all of a sudden i had an urge to watch the Double Dragon movie.  Dave?  Matt?

even though GTA games are pretty stupid and mundane in terms of plot, they're LONG.  so at least someone recognizes that if someone made a "GTA" movie, it would be little more than a substandard gangster flick, of which we already have many.

That and the plots for all the GTA movies are the most uncreative rip-offs of Scarface and Sopranos possible.

Oh, and James Jean is a friend of mine that was handling the concept art chores for the first movie, and is also a pretty god damn fine artist... http://www.jamesjean.com/

The reason Rockstar said that is because they feel threatened. They think they are essentially making movies in a new genre that are better than traditional movies, so they are probably insulted that someone would try to "dumb down" their game into a 2 hour flick. Too bad they suck at narratives and the only good thing about the game are the, you know, game parts.

I'd watch Double Dragon. Is that the one with the guy from Party of Five? lol

Grand Theft Auto has a story? I stopped playing after Vice City... But, the story bits seemed like they were trying to rush through them so they could get to the missions. Which made the dialogue sound weird in comparison.

Even then I ignored most of the missions in order to run over people while rocking out to the 80's soundtrack.
