help me find some new music

[pilot]

I'd like some new music to listen to when I draw. Anyone heard anything good lately they'd recommend?

[loopback]

I'm a huge fan of Jason Webley, and in another couple of months, the new album from Led to Sea is going to be out, and it's super awesome.

I'm also listening to "The Shadow out of Tim" by Darkest of the Hillside Thickets for all my lovecraft-themed garage-rock needs.

And there's always The Residents.  They're pretty much amazing.

oh yeah have you heard james blackshaw? he's dreamy!

So apparently the new Joanna Newsom album has officially leaked so I can talk about it: it's awesome. It's 2 hours of great stuff that seems to be a pretty natural progression from Ys. See if you can find "In California" online to listen to. So good...

this is one of the best things i've heard in a while. (link should still be up)

i haven't heard all of the new newsom yet, but i didn't care for y's. my initial impression of the new one is this linda ronstadt thing doesn't really do it for me, but it is much better than the beach boys prog of y's.

my other initial impression is whose idea over at drag city was it to tart her up?

[dmauro]

I don't know, but I was hanging out at Mallory's the other day and her roommate and some bros were GIS'ing sexy photos of her. I guess she's got that kind of fanbase :?

[dhex]

well, she does now!

(it's sad but a good strategy)

also, what's GIS?

[dmauro]

Google image search.

oh, yeah. actually that should support my "drag city and/or her entertainment industry bf have decided that she should try to make a breakout this year" as you can see old pictures of a less tarty nature and then that parasol thing which seems to sit about three inches off of the artiest hipster porn photo shoot intro you could find.
