Or simply, they know how A works and can't understand why B is the way it is, and is not like A.

Truth be told, that's how I am with PCs to a certain extent. I've come far in terms of understanding how Windows operates under the hood, but I still throw my hands up in the air when I can't get some tiny little thing to cooperate, which most either already understand and control, or simply have enough sense to just ignore and go on with their merry lives.

Yeah, OS X "sucks", whatever, but at least I can control it 99% of the time, as opposed to the 80% on the PC side. Which in my defense, is far better than the 30% from a few years ago.

well yeah, but if it was a side by side thing, they wouldn't bother getting best buy to optimize shit. they'd just take it home. preloaded os's (os'es? oesses?) are, in theory, the easiest fucking thing in the universe. and if you're not buying from a crapware vendor (hi dell) even a pc is general light on stuff that would give novices too many problems.

plus i do think there's the distinction between operating and tinkering; operating is day to day (why won't ms word print this document?) while tinkering is fotzing with what ain't already broken (why won't ms word print to this wireless printserver i just cobbled from an old pc?)

I thought Target was better than this...

... Okay, I exaggerate. Once again, the worst ideas are the ones that are stupid but yet get others to follow suit.
