happy fun times (media player edition)

aight so the new thing this year is redundant backups and streaming netflix. i've got a nas already set up, a new gigabit & g wireless network router, and a western digital hd tv live box. everything works great - netflix streaming is neat, as are all the playon plugins for adult swim and other net content sites - except the whole "make your dvds into easily accessed files" thing.

that part sucks.

.iso files are unwieldy without chapter support - dvddecrypter either doesn't have that option or i'm an idiot.

handbrake is a bit weird on the .mkv file output at this point.

is there an easier way to do this? or am i doomed to a life where conan the barbarian cannot be streamed in 20 seconds to my tv?

I rip my DVD files into ISO/MDS files using DVDDecrypter and loading those files up with Daemon Tools is just as good as having the disc in the drive. I simply use the read option of DVDDecrypter to get them to rip like that.

after fotzing with handbrake for a bit it seems like the easiest solution is rip using dvd decrypter, then turn the .iso into a .mkv file with chapter breaks. the wd hd tv live box doesn't give the same kind of functionality with .iso files, there's more stuttering and they're 8x the size. it took about 2 hours to convert the 2.5 hour long harry potter flick into a 1gb mkv file.
