It's not my cup of tea, but surely at least one person around here has to be digging into it, perhaps this very second! Time to see what's going on over at XBL...

i don't plan on picking it up for...a while, probably.

i really enjoyed CoD4, like, a lot, but i'm still not totally convinced i need this game on Day 1 for $60.  so, i'll get it eventually, but who knows when.

a random game store opened up near me.  one of those game/cell phone stores.  the guy who runs the place is an absolute sleaze.  i hate people who think that being agressive and smooth talking is a good way to sell things.  anyway, i walked in and he said "i know why you're here."  to which i said, "you do?"  he told me "Modern Warfare 2.  i have the last copy."  so it somewhat piqued my interest, until he said it was for Wii.

i mean, really?  MW2 on Wii?

My brother will probably pick it up for me at Christmas. I'll be all set with L4D2.

I do not plan on picking up MW2 at all. From what I've seen online graphics looks pretty, but FPP's are not my cup of tea. I have Forza 3, Demon's Souls, Uncharted 2, Torchlight plus pile of other 360 games that I yet have to try. Actually I'm a bit afraid of playing Demon's Souls and was putting it on the back burner for the longest time - I'm not afraid of the game, just that I have such high hopes for it and I do not want to get disappointed.

Like dmauro said, for people who are into FPPs looks like L4D2 would be a way better choice - if only longer and more varied single player campaign. I watched my girlfriend the other day replaying the two level demo over and over again for hours and not being bored a bit.

Yup, I've put 15 hours into the demo. :/

I originally didn't think I would even need to bother with L4D2 because the original game has kept my attention, but I can't pass up 5 new campaigns, all with versus mode playable, a new versus mode, and new weapons and infected. Plus after the sequel comes out it's going to be harder to find matches in the original.

PS
They just added 4x4 matchmaking for L4D, which means you can put together a team of four and find another team of four to play against instead of playing with a collection of randoms. It makes for more competitive games and much fewer rage quitting.

I am in a similar boat as everyone else, being a little strapped for cash, but I'm sure I will really enjoy MW2 once I play it.  I didn't play CoD4 until about three months ago even though it was on my radar for a year.

XBL just banned about ONE MILLION consoles from Live. The rumor is that it was under pressure from IW because MW2 leaked early and a lot of people were playing it a week in advance. Anyways, that is 5% of their online userbase that just got banned, which is insane. I had no idea that 360 modding was so prevalent.

I'm really glad I went with a j360 now instead of modding it to be region free.

I posted in the games you're playing thread about MW2 as I've been playing it on the 360. The short of it is that it's awesome.

Were those people playing pirated copies or just ones that hit the street early? Because in that case, doesn't the fault lie with stores who gave up the goods early? What, gamers are now supposed to take the moral high road if faced with the possibility to play a game early?

It's only pirated copies.

although anyone getting banned for playing a pirated copy of a game should accept responsibility for what they did I wonder if this isn't going to be a case of "even if you win, you lose" for those who dropped the axe.

In my experience on various modding forums, people with modded systems are usually pretty resigned about it. I saw a lot of "I can't believe I escaped the ban hammer for so long." And the people that did survive this hammer are even resigned to probably getting banned the next time around since MS's method for detecting this stuff seems to be improving (apparently you can get banned even if you play games offline, but then later log in to live without a backup, as if the system is logging it and then telling Live about it).

My brother and dad went in half and half to gift me MW2 on Steam so we could all play. The message from my brother said "here you go, cheapskate" Smiley  He couldn't believe that if I was choosing to buy only one game, it was L4D2 and not MW2 (nevermind it was $25 cheaper).
