... Looks pretty hawt, and the fact that it stars the girl from those Touhou shumps is extra icing on the cake.

It looks like the repetitiveness and lack of challenge of the Igavanias combined with the linear design of the earlier games. Yup, that's about the worst direction I can imagine for a Castlevania inspired game.

Dave pretty much summed up my thoughts on this game. the boss fights look like they could be challenging but less in a platformer way and more in a shmup way.

And isn't that the point?

Also, the game doesn't look bad to me, but then again, I also like the DS Metroidvania games, which everyone says is bad, so what the hell do I know.

... I bet all those same people are eating up Shadow Complex, despite the shit art direction. Is that indicative of being too kind to crap from Japan? Maybe!

I guess if I want to play a shmup, I'll play a shmup.  I dunno, I guess the whole thing looks messy to me. I mean it's pretty (in that it looks EXACTLY like the Iga games), but that's all I see. I guess I miss Castlevania when it was a hard platformer. Metrovanias were a nice once in a while thing, but I never thought they'd become the standard. It'd be like if all of a sudden every Mega Man game became nothing but straight hallways with enemies who sometimes attacked you but generally were there for you to level up.

it's just a weird shift, to me.

I bought Shadow Complex and maybe(?) regret buying it. It's weird; I feel like it plays more like a 2D FPS than it does Super Metroid. like, repackaged, it could totally have been that GBA Halo game. it's kind of like Super Metroid in the most superficial of ways. Namely it blatantly takes the powerups from that game.

I was actually really surprised, though, to find bottomless pits and instant-death traps.  I thought developers were afraid that stuff scared modern audiences away.

I found the whole shooting shit in the background to be a novel concept, but the execution rather sloppy.
