I actually live around Clinton Hill... while I don't think I could wholeheartedly recommended any place, Alibi on DeKalb might actually fit your bill if you are just looking for drinks: http://www.yelp.com/biz/alibi-brooklyn

The visit should produce a cheap drink and at least one entertaining story

Also some decent food to be had in the area ..

dhex,

Merzbow was really great, he played alongside a (Belgian?) drummer whose name escapes me, which complements his harsh, metal-y style perfectly imo.  It was also my first time seeing him so I can't say how it compared to his other live acts. I know he played a 2-set show at Issue Project Room just a few nights before that one, so there was plenty of Merz lovin' to go around.

My only complaints was the set wasn't long enough (for me..) and I missed seeing Gentle, argh (only sort of my fault)

So, today I walk past the sleeping homeless guy who has recently setup 'residence' on our street and spot amidst his stash of junk...notebook, plastic bags...an SNES cart.  My second walk-by confirmed that it was Super Mario All-Stars (of course, I had to find out).

Trying to figure where he's plugged in the console.

I'll be at this on Sunday: http://lepoissonrouge.com/events/view/1422

Pretty indifferent about Xiu Xiu...but Merzbow, mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!  Gentle is also playing and judging from what's on their myspace, sounds like they have some potential

edit: I won't be going, but for those interested, I found out Shonen Knife will be playing at the Knitting Factory in BK on Tues night - http://bk.knittingfactory.com/event-details/?tfly_event_id=13137

Yeah, I'm really interested how folks approach collecting/gaming out here.  I moved here a couple years ago from a more suburban area and the mindset seems totally different.  Instead of the focus being on collecting/hoarding + must-have-giant-tv/gameroom, it seems a little more actual gaming-oriented? Kind of interesting.

I could be wrong though, as I haven't had the chance to do much collecting or gaming since arriving here sadly--trying to make that change though.

ps- anybody been to the 'new' retro gaming place on St. Marks? I went to it today, it's called '8 bit and Up' and I'm pretty sure its the rebirth of the Play N Trade that used to be nearby.. of course everything is priced like it is made out of gold, but the raw space they occupy could have potential to become a nice spot of sorts.

Hey guys, first post, good to be here

I have a question for all you fellow New Yorkers-- how the heck to you store all your games and such?  We all know space in the city is a premium, but unfortunately collecting games/anime/etc. can be a bit of a space intensive hobby...especially when you get into multi-system/tv setups.  So I wanted to put it out there, how do all you collectors store your stuff?  Let it all hang out?  Tuck it neatly away on shelves?

As for me, I'm lucky enough to have a pretty big space out in BK, but not much shelving so it ends up getting all crammed up in my room or hidden away in boxes in our lofted storage.  Plus, not sure if my roommates would want to see the pile of Sega Saturns that I keep telling myself I'm going to fix oneday just sitting out in our living area..

So tell me, how do you do it? (good/bad example pics are welcome)
