Title: The Trouble With Xboxes (Technical Issues... Actually, Just Technical Bullshit)
Post by: EarlMadness on July 21, 2009, 11:21:36 AM
My Xbox has suddenely decided to add a nasty ble/green tint to select colors including the logo start-up screen.  It's not the tv itself as a PS2 hookedup has the correct colors, just the xbox.

Any suggestions?

Check that the cables are properly connected. Are you using component cables?

Yeah that sounds like a loose connection. The other thing that comes to mind, though I think it would result in NO signal, not a shitty signal, is that the standard/HD slider on the video cable coming off the 360 is set to the right position as well. (as I recall, it has both 'HD' and 'standard' positions to choose from. Though that may be specific from cable to cable...)

Okay, I've got one: I used to be able to turn on my system by just hitting the center button on one of my wireless controllers. Not a problem. But as of recently... not anymore. The light on the controller just keeps cycling, and now I have to touch the power button on the system itself. Hope this is not indicative of something...

...that makes it's not connected fort, you'll see a little button the front of the controller.  Hold that down until the lights spin then hold down a button on the xbox, same small size on it's front.   They should sync up then.

And yesh.  It was the cables, me and my borhter now have figured out to play 1943 with a shit-brown sea:)

Yeah, I understand the basic issue, I just wonder why it's happening all of a sudden.

God, syncing wireless controllers are such a fucking pain in the ass and the new bane of my existence. Don't get me started on the Wii. For such a supposedly newbie-centered system, it's such a headache to set up properly. I have to resync everything literally once every two weeks.

The controller might just be broken, Fort. I've had problems like that.

Actually I just had my controller refuse to sync for about ten minutes till I shut my 360 off and on then worked, so yeah, maybe it isn't necessarily isolated to yours.

Perhaps most of you have seen this already...

http://kotaku.com/5339555/report-xbox-360-failure-rate-over-50-percent

... I actually found such figures rather ridiculous, since Game Informer is hardly Consumer Reports. And now my system just red-ringed. FUCK.

But I guess that's what the PS3 is for, huh?

Just started the process of getting my 360 repaired. Holy shit, these MS customer support people are as abysmal as everyone says.

I take back everything I've said about AT&T's shit customer support, which used to be the absolute worst in my mind. I'm amazing how EVERY single step involved doesn't work (let alone all the absurd steps involved). Mostly because they force you to do shit via their completely broken website. And 3 weeks before I get my system back? WTF. Then again, considering that 50% of every unit they make breaks down, that's not a surprisingly number.

And people wonder why I won't touch PCs.

My 360 came back just now. And wouldn't you know, it's absolutely filthy, plus there's a dent in the faceplate. Thanks Microsoft.

Truth be told, it's super tiny and impossible to notice, but it still pisses me off and still enough to warrant a call to customer support. Which I just got done with; after being on-hold for 30 minutes, I just got disconnected. Once again, thanks Microsoft!

At least I have a second Xbox and therefore another faceplate to swap it with (which I might be returning as well since it too is giving me headaches, but at least I didn't pay for the debug).

Unlike what I've been told, and despite what the directions state, I didn't have to re-download anything. Huh? That's hella convenient, but still doesn't feel right. I don't expect MS to make anything all of a sudden easier, but before I packed it up, the machine wouldn't run period, so I guess something was fixed.

I dunno, this whole process just reeks of a company who does not give two fucking shits.

well, no this is what the re-download thing is about:

your games are still on the hard drive, but apparently you need to re-download them or they won't work if you're not connected to XBoxLive.  this is what they've said and other people have said, though, thruthfully, i didn't actually test this out.  maybe try out the games offline and see if they work?  if they do, then i guess chalk it up to rumors and misinformation; if not, then...yea, have fun :\

Been playing around with a few games, and overall, the entire system feels a bit sluggish. Things take longer to load then I remember, and certain transitions, like between menus on games, are all jittery. Me thinks that there's still a problem.

Then again, now that I'm actively looking for problems, things might stick out that I didn't even notice before.

Man, said it before, but will say it again: this generation of gaming is suck a pain in the ass.

there was also a 360 update not that long ago and since then I've seen some intermittent "why is my 360 running like shit" moments as well, so it may not be you, it may be something in the new update that's still trying to get its bearings.

Considering that we are dealing with a hard drive, and how the 460 is practically a computer, and how this is also MS we're talking about, you'd think that there's be some kind of a defrag program or something.
