Title: iPhone and iPod Touch games thread Post by: dmauro on January 23, 2010, 07:45:37 PM Posting from my iPod touch. Matt and Joe showed me a bunch of cool games but I don't remember the names of any of them. Plus I figure there are probably some new games that I should check out. Recommend GO!
Title: Re: iPhone and iPod Touch games thread Post by: FortNinety on January 23, 2010, 08:40:56 PM First, the essentials:
Canabalt - The ultimate, pick and play for just 5 seconds iPhone game. Perfect control and perfect everything else. Well worth the $3 you'll pay for it. Edge (or Edgy as its called these days) - Awesome aesthetics and sounds, drag controls that actually work. CritterCrunch - I still say the iPhone version is vastly superior to the PS3 version. Just a great gem-type puzzler. Eliss - Whimsical is the best way to describe this game, as well as hard as fuck. This is the game that will work the best on iPad, but the iPhone/iPod Touch version is sill a damn fine game, even work the asking price of $6. Space Invaders Infinity Gene - A shmup that actually works on the platform, and like many of the already mentioned titles, sexy as all hell. And the rest, which are all still quite great, but not as brilliant as the ones just mentioned. Try out the Lite versions first if they're available: Skee-ball Peggle Flight Control ParaPanic Mr. AahH!! Evacuation EnviroBear Hook Champ Mini Squadron Topple 2+ (don't get regular #2, which costs money) Stay Zen Bound Beat It! Bitboxland Lit Line Newtonica (just the first one) One Dot Enemies MGS Touch Tomma Sanner Jet Car Stunts ... sorry, too lazy to check what games I've uninstalled in my iTunes que. Title: Re: iPhone and iPod Touch games thread Post by: dmauro on January 23, 2010, 09:04:28 PM I played Canabalt on the web, but I didn't like it that much. Cool graphics though. I just bought CritterCrunch because I liked that one. Has anyone tried NOVA?
Title: Re: iPhone and iPod Touch games thread Post by: FortNinety on January 24, 2010, 12:00:35 AM Dude, fuck anything from Gameloft. Seriously. I know you like Halo and all, so a mindless, totally uncreative clone might be your alley.
Though try Eliminate Pro, I've heard good things about that one, plus it's by ngmoco. Title: Re: iPhone and iPod Touch games thread Post by: loopback on January 25, 2010, 03:21:56 AM Plants vs. Zombies is going to be landing on the iphone in the very near future (matter of a few weeks, I believe. don't have a hard date yet.)
Also, if I see someone else put Peggle down as 'good but not as good as these other games' again, I might have to cut someone. ALL HAIL UNICORNS AND RAINBOWS. Title: Re: iPhone and iPod Touch games thread Post by: dmauro on January 26, 2010, 09:02:38 PM Games I put down money for:
Critter Crunch (my favorite, very much so) Puzzle Quest (I bought the $5 one with two chapters because I played the hell out of this on the PSP and I don't think I ever even bought it) Pac-Man CE (halfway decent control system and I like how the different championship levels work better than on the XBLA game) Peggle (loved this on PC, but only had the demo because it's more of a time waster than something I would seek out to play, will be great on the subway) Jet Car Stunts (saw a video and it looked too good not to try) Flight Control (took your advice on this one, not completely sold on it yet, but went for it since it was only a buck) Looking at buying: Hook Champ, Eliss, Labyrinth 2, Sway, Zen Bound. These all have demo versions that are pretty good, but I'm not totally sold on yet. Free games I'm enjoying: Mr. Aah (my favorite free one) Topple 2+ (super fun, but after one level I find myself switching to something else) Unblock Me and Edgymind (nice puzzlers) Eliminate Pro (it's an FPS deathmatch game, kind of intersting, uses ngmoco's plus network if anyone wants to play) Title: Re: iPhone and iPod Touch games thread Post by: dmauro on January 27, 2010, 01:27:19 AM p.s.
Peggle's use of Ode to Joy is one of the better abuses of cliche out there. Title: Re: iPhone and iPod Touch games thread Post by: dmauro on January 30, 2010, 04:55:12 PM Everyone get "Words with Friends." It's a free scrabble-ish game that you can play online. My name on there is wizardpeople so just put it in there and it will automatically start up a game between us.
Title: Re: iPhone and iPod Touch games thread Post by: dmauro on January 31, 2010, 12:04:04 PM Also check out Surfacer. It's a really good free game that the App Store genius feature found for me.
Title: Re: iPhone and iPod Touch games thread Post by: isfet on January 31, 2010, 12:14:05 PM how is "chess with friends?" i've been on a bit of a chess kick lately, but don't have many people to play with. anyone on here game?
Title: Re: iPhone and iPod Touch games thread Post by: dmauro on January 31, 2010, 03:17:45 PM Yes, also get Chess with Friends if you play chess. Perhaps there's something better, but this works just fine and it's free.
Title: Re: iPhone and iPod Touch games thread Post by: FortNinety on February 20, 2010, 01:17:38 AM I know Joe's been playing this one already, but for everyone else, Noby Noby Boy for the iPhone is simply the greatest thing ever, easily my new fave game for the device.
