Title: So Johnny Cash Is In The Upcoming Guitar Hero 5

... Seems as classy as when Diet Coke featured Fred Astaire. As in, it's not very.

I know I'm like the only person here who loves GH/RB, so perhaps no one else will give two shits, but I find this so douchey. Mostly because the new GH is really dragging the whole genre down at a fairly rapid pace. Then again, perhaps no faster than any red-hot flavor of games that eventually loses its spotlight.

On a different note, I should be getting my review build of Rock Band Beatles very soon. :)

eeeeeh, I'm not sure how to feel about it. I'm far more annoyed because the Guitar Hero franchise keeps cranking out titles whereas Rock Band is mostly cranking out content.

And The last GH I played (3, I think. The one right after the Harmonix guys left to do Rock Band) was utter shit. The simulation of 'playing the song' was replaced with "DUDE WE MADE THIS HARD" and it became a twitch arcade game instead of a faux rockstar simulator.  They just didn't seem to 'get' the flavor of the game the way harmonix did/does.

But I'm not a fan of the Beatles, so this giant Beatles Rock Band release is a giant "whatever" for me, and it ensures that any time I go to someone's house to play RB, we'll probably be stuck doing a bunch of fucking beatles tunes.

I am still considering picking up the Guitar Hero Classics pack, if only so I can play Helmet's "Unsung" on the drum kit.

Like I said, Neversoft is really messing up a good thing. As bad as GH3 might be, part 4 is twenty times worse, with their obnoxious use of celebrity cameos and product tie ins. Also, the soundtrack leaves A LOT to be desired, though the only reason I got it was for the final track, Pull Me Under by Dream Theater. And yes, everyone can point and laugh, it's a fave from my childhood, so sue me.

Which I will never get to because the whole is so god awfully boring.

But another thing that pisses me off is how some of the mechanics were overhauled. Maybe it's precisely what you speak of, which means I'm a bit of a heretic, or perhaps it's a refinement of part 3, which to be honest, I didn't play all that much. Though I find the idea of keeping one finger on a fret while manipulating others somewhat "realistic".

As for the Beatles song, I guess you have to be a fan of them to give two shits about the game. Which I happen to be, so sorry. At least Harmonix is really good about supporting RB1/2 with a steady stream of awesome DLC. Though I won't be totally happy till Pull Me Under shows up.

I'm also dying to know what the hell happened to the Japanese version of Rock Band that Q Entertainment was working on. Was hoping to play some Mondo Grosso through that.

And yeah, I too have considered getting the GH Classic release for some of the part 1 and 2 songs, now that they're all masters. Right?

Yep, they are now all masters. I thought the Metallica release was actually pretty good. I'm not much into the genre, but I liked its tracklist.

I'd get it if there was absolutely nothing past the black album.

Interesting...

http://kotaku.com/5333592/guitar-hero-5-lets-you-import-older-guitar-hero-songs

... Might get 5 after-all, if only to be able to play that Dream Theater song at. Plus being able to play those old Classic songs would be great, since 5 introduces that new art style which looks MUCH better than 3 and 4. Haven't seen what Classics looks like though.

But watch all the best songs get held back cuz of licensing issues.

Almost hilarious? How about most definitely? What truly makes it are the stupid 360 Wanna-miis in on the action.

BTW, I thought they were going to change the art style? Adding yet another layer of soft lighting does not count.

Almost hilarious, because it really made me sad.

Retardatars were bad, but really, what's up with that skeleton on invisible drumset?

Can we call GH5 Kingdom hearts of rhythm games now?

The controversy seems to be going full steam ahead...

http://kotaku.com/5357425/cobain-attorney-calls-for-activision-to-limit-musicians-use-in-gh5

... I guess the sticking point is how clear it was made to Love that Cobain would be to what extent her dead husband's visage would be used. Obviously she didn't ask enough questions, since there's no accusations of specific lies.... yet.

Meanwhile, Iggy Pop is going to be in Lego Rock Band...
