While it is true that there are better ways to get rid of such hardware, especially since Macs of those generation were so un-eco-friendly, his bottom-line reasons, that is to protect/destroy the info on the hard drive, is somewhat sound. It's also worth noting that the dude is a MAJOR Mac guy (I really wish I had the video from an old MacAddict CD-ROM in which he went on for seriously 30 minutes about System 8.6 versus 7.6.5).
