If you try to pay your ride with a card, but get a weird error message after swiping your card, with the driver explaining that there's a problem with a satellite, followed by a suggestion that you try again... don't. Cuz the fucker is trying to rip you off. Which is what I just discovered the hard way; one ride this past Saturday night has cost me almost $100.

I know that there's been stories of cabbies ripping off customers as of late, but have no idea if they've been using similar methods.

I called 311 and registered a complaint. They asked for a lot of specific info, which I think is a good thing, like day and time of the ride, as well as the medallion number. They're going to send me something in the mail that I need to fill out, and then there might be a hearing. A real fucking drag, but I intend to get every fucking cent back.

What makes this a little worse is how I always try to give cabbies a break, by giving them nice tips and hardly any ever shit. They've got pretty thankless jobs and the such. From this point forward, going to be more careful and doubtful.
