for anyone unfamiliar with the Market Hotel, it's a small DIY type of venue located in Bushwick/Bed-Stuy (i dunno it's hard to tell on Myrtle-Broadway) right off the JMZ.  it's not exactly pretty to look at, but the sound is always good and the venue is just the right size to fit enough people but still be intimate.

So Joe, you're seeing NIN again this week, right? How many times has it been thus far? 8 or 9?

i honestly have lost count by this point.  it easily has to be at least the eighth or ninth time i'm seeing them live.  but yea, i'm seeing them on Wednesday.  the last last show in NYC.  i know no one around here really digs NIN very much (or digs them enough to follow them the way i do), but this is probably going to be a weird show for me.

the main reason for it being the "last" show is apparently financial.  with his current business model, Reznor can't really turn the same type of profit (or any) by touring the way he used to.  knowing him (in the superficial "i read your interviews" way), i doubt this is really the last tour.  i think it'll be the last tour in terms of this grandiose rock band live on stage with flashing lights and smoke and general Rock(tm) absurdity.  but i think it would be naive to assume he will never perform live again in some capacity.  also considering that he still plans to make music (possibly even under the NIN moniker), i don't see how it can't happen.

larkin grimm has a nice voice. amber asylum is pleasant, if boring. i can take or leave lungfish.

Joe, Julia that you met the other night (if you weren't black out drunk that is ) is a huge NIN fan. She still carries her school girl crush for Trent Reznor. She was pretty envious to hear you went to both "final" shows.

also, i always feel bad when i meet someone and i'm piss drunk.  i have a recollection that i met this girl and that she was a blonde, but really don't recall anything that we talked about or even her name until you mentioned it just now.

the crowd was fine except for that dude with the sports coat and he took himself out of the game with a self-inflicted drinking injury.

that was some damn fine boredoms.

They mostly got on my nerves, and something quick and fierce, when you guys all went for a smoke, when all of a sudden I was surrounded by a ring of jerk-offs who wouldn't shut the fuck up while Lichens was getting starting. It was all "this is soooooo cooooooool man" and "is he the Boredoms?" and "what the fuck is he doing" and "dude, I just got tagged in Facebook, look". Who all somewhat disseminated by the time you all showed up, of course, but hence why I was in such a pissy mod when you found me Mike.

Plus, sports coat dude standing right in front of me, giving me less than half an inch breathing room, despite the fact that my immediate surrounding was hardly dense, I guess is further proof that I simply attract douchebags at any show. As bad as it was at Terminal 5 last night... which honestly wasn't horrible... imagine how it is for me when I got to, say, Union Hall? Which is why I hardly go to live shows anymore.

But yeah, last night's performance was fucking awesome.

Hey, I made it. It was a good show, Health is much more of a noise band live than they are on record, with many sections that went closer to grindcore than anything else. Overall there wasn't a lot of differentiation between songs, it was more of a constant meditative throb of noise. Their drummer is amazing.

Crowd was very hipster-y. Far more than I've ever seen at any other show.
