Was gonna throw this in the Soul Cancer thread, but despite it hailing from Sankaku Complex, it's worth a somewhat serious look at, plus it's about time we had a fullborne political thread...

http://www.sankakucomplex.com/2009/08/08/japanese-general-we-must-acquire-nuclear-weapons/

... To be honest, can't blame the attitude. North Korea is nuts and I can easily imagine the new guy in charge blowing Japan off the face of the earth, or trying to, as a sign that he means business or what not.

This site would be super interesting...

http://www.iamsorryivotedforobama.com/

... if not for the fact that that many of the folks leaving testimonies are complete bullshit. I had no idea "communistic" was a word.

Though it is true, many of the most loud mouthed Obamamaniacs I personally know have quietly removed their buttons from their messenger bags and no longer seem interested in talking politics. I think it's been the Cash for Clunkers debacle that's shut everyone up the most.

I guess the most aggravating thing about Obama being just another politician (as expected) is how all his most ardent haters have plenty of fuel for their annoying fires. Which I guess is ultimately his fault in the end (though there's better things for him to worry about).

Obama is a fantastic propagandist. You should have seen the electricity in the crowds of DC right around the inauguration: everyone was just so excited! But he hasn't kept up the propaganda. Wait another year when he needs to campaign again and we'll see whether those buttons come back.

"I'm sorry I voted for Obama" seems silly to me. Come on, it's not like your vote really mattered, why even bother?

Seems to belong here rather than the video thread.

Meanwhile, if you go to Union Square here in NYC, you'll find at least one dude who still goes around selling shirts that says "Impeach Bush" and is still calling for his head on a platter. It's like I've been saying all along, and despite them being counterpoints to people like in that music video, Bush haters need (and secretly love) Bush more than his fans since he truly was the ultimate catch-all for all their ridiculous woes.

Point being, dumb people still love using the guy for whatever dumb purpose.

I've noticed as of late that even my most diehard Obamamaniacs colleagues have begun to sing a different tune as reality has begun to sunk in...

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/10/02/washington-doesnt-get-it_n_307882.html

... Though I just find it hilarious that those who couldn't shut the hell up about the political process this time last year now all of a sudden don't want to talk about it. And pointing and laughing (or getting annoying at) Fox News doesn't count

once the dust clears, the excitement dies down and people realize that Obama's inauguration didn't lead to the singularity, people go back to ignoring things as usual.  there's nothing very theatrical about the past year or so, aside from Obama's election.

but expecting much else would be pretty naive.

I can appreciate the need to keep China happy at a sensitivity time, I suppose, but still, kinda shitty.

Let me guess; his the only New York politician who actually wants those stupid terrorist trials in NYC as well, right?

bask in the motherfucking glory!

(coakley deserved to lose for a number of reasons; the death of this payout venture for insurance companies is merely soap, since something more horrible will no doubt emerge. still, pandragon's tears are *always* yummy.)
