so i figure to be ready to take my license test in about a month or so, and i must say the highlight of driving thus far - beyond the bowel-emptying terror of it all - was witnessing my first texting while driving. i was so excited, as liz can attest, because it was like seeing a unicorn or watching someone hold an m80 for too long. things that should not be, yet are.

I saw a bus driver texting while driving last weekend. Awesome...

the bowel-emptying terror of it all

That's precisely how I felt every time I was behind the wheel, and a primary reason why I never got my license. I'm more than jealous of anyone who can drive like it's not thang. I try not to live my life in fear, but when it comes to controlling a gigantic, dangerous thing, and being among others trying to do the same.... eh, nope.

On a semi-related note, I've been on the road quite a bit the past month or so, going out of town for shit like Ikea or pro wrestling, and the roads, primarily in Jersey... while also sorta sucking... have been REALLY bad as of late. The congestion is just out of hand, and people also seem extra stupid as well. Our bus driver coming back to Ikea, which Katie can attest to, actually didn't know how to park the thing in Port Authority and practically forgot how to get there. Seriously.

I would hate to have had to learn to drive in the city. Learning to drive is daunting on its own. But I have enough experience behind the wheel that driving in the city is fun. Second only to driving out in the boondocks in the middle of winter.

well Mike used to drive sometime like 20 years ago, so this isn't necessarily the place he's "learning;" just re-learning.

today i dropped off a mouse i caught in my apartment at McCarren Park (sorry if he comes over to play your Astro Cabs, Dave).  on the way home i got pulled over; the two cops wanted to know why i was using my phone, to which i showed them google maps, explaining that i was trying to find the right road home.

amazingly, they let me off but with a warning that while cell phone laws don't currently cover GPS stuff, they probably will eventually.  also, with a suggestion that next time i just pull over somewhere and figure out.

i mean, they're pretty much right :\

Yup. Was the cop's eye twitching in a tic like fashion when he found out you weren't texting so he wouldn't be able to ticket you?

joe, you caught the mouse?

so yesterday  i drove on the bqe for the first time, like, ever. down to ikea no less. it was alright. tiring, though. stop and start traffic sucks balls.

oddly enough, i don't suffer road rage as a driver, only a passenger. (some guy in a bmw suv tried to drive through us on the way back in red hook. i was going to get out at the next light and pee on his car.)
